What the City of Regina requires
Under the City's foundation drain discharge specification (City of Regina):
- Foundation drain water may not go into the sanitary sewer.
- The sump pit must be at least 750 mm deep, with a sealed, child-resistant cover.
- The pump must be CSA approved and sized for the expected inflow.
- The discharge line needs a check valve, a union and a shut-off valve.
- Water discharged to the surface must land at least 1 m from the house and 2 m from the property line, and never onto a sidewalk or street.
Common upgrades
- Replacing a worn-out or undersized pump
- A battery backup pump for power failures during storms
- A high-water alarm
- Rerouting a discharge hose that dumps water back against the foundation
