How it works
- Dig down to the footing along the leaking walls.
- Clean the wall and repair cracks.
- Apply a waterproof membrane and drainage board.
- Replace old clay weeping tile with new perforated pipe in gravel.
- Backfill and slope the ground away from the house.
When it makes sense
- A finished basement you don't want torn up
- Failed or collapsed weeping tile
- Serious wall cracks that also need structural work
Cost
Exterior excavation generally runs $150 to $300 per linear foot, often $10,000 to $25,000 or more. Weeping tile replacement on a typical bungalow is commonly quoted at $8,000 to $15,000. (Saskatoon cost data, source)
